Why Prefinished? – The smarter way to get timber floors
| No Drying Time Walk on your floors the same day they’re laid. No waiting for coats to cure, no rooms blocked off for days. |
Factory-Grade Finish Multiple protective coats applied under controlled conditions. Harder, more durable finish than anything done on-site. |
No Dust or Fumes No sanding inside your home. No strong chemical smells. Perfect if you have kids, pets, or allergies. |
| Faster Installation No on-site prep coats mean your floor is done in less time. Less disruption to your daily life. |
Consistent Look What you see in the sample is exactly what you get installed. No surprises from on-site staining variation. |
Easy to Maintain Regular cleaning is all it takes. When it does need refreshing, it can be sanded and recoated like any solid timber. |

How does the flooring installation process work?
From call to installed in 3 simple steps
We keep it straightforward.
| 1. Call or Enquire Tell us your space, your style preference, and we’ll recommend the right species and grade for your home. |
2. Free Measure & Quote We come to you, measure the area, and give you a firm quote. No hidden costs, no surprises. |
3. Supply & Install Our team installs your prefinished floor. Walk on it the same day. Job done. |
How long does installation take for an average home?
Most homes under 80m² are done in a single day. Larger jobs or rooms that need significant subfloor levelling may take two days. We’ll give you an exact timeline when we come to measure.
Can prefinished timber go over underfloor heating?
Yes, prefinished solid timber is compatible with underfloor heating, but it must be installed with acclimation. This ensures the timber adjusts to the temperature and humidity of the home before installation.
What's the difference between prefinished and pre-oiled?
-
- Prefinished timber comes with factory-applied polyurethane coatings, providing a hard, durable, and ready-to-walk-on finish. Prefinished boards use UV-cured polyurethane coatings very hard, low maintenance, and glossy or matt depending on the range.
- Pre-oiled timber has an oil finish, which gives a more natural look. Pre-oiled boards use a penetrating oil that soaks into the wood, giving it more of a natural feel, but needs re-oiling every 1–2 years. Our standard prefinished range uses a polyurethane top coat.
Will there be a visible join line at the bevelled edges?
Prefinished boards have a small micro-bevel where boards meet; it’s a design feature that hides any minor height variation between boards and gives the floor a clean, defined look. If you prefer a flat, seamless join, raw timber sanded on-site is the better choice. We can show you both options during the sample visit.
Can I get a sample before I decide?
Absolutely, and we recommend it. Timber changes dramatically under different lighting conditions. We bring samples to your home during the free measure so you can see exactly how each species looks in your space before you commit to anything.
Do you move furniture as part of the installation?
We can move standard furniture as part of the job. Very heavy items (pianos, built-in wardrobes, pool tables) need to be arranged separately. We’ll flag anything unusual when we do the measure.
Is prefinished timber suitable for all rooms?
It works well in living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, and hallways. We don’t recommend solid timber in wet areas like bathrooms or laundries. If you have underfloor heating, speak to us first as some species handle it better than others.
