What Is Parquetry?

Where does parquetry work?
Parquetry suits most rooms in the home. Living Room, Dining Room, Bedroom, Hallway, Home Office
Not recommended for bathrooms, laundries, or high-moisture areas.
Which pattern is best for a small room?
Herringbone and chevron can actually make a small room feel larger when laid on a diagonal axis, as the eye follows the angle of the pattern. Wood strip or brick bond tend to look better in longer, narrower spaces like hallways. We’ll advise based on your actual dimensions when we visit
Can it be installed over a concrete slab?
Yes, with a moisture barrier and proper adhesive. Most parquetry is glued directly to the concrete slab. We check moisture levels when we come out for the measure and advise on any prep work required before installation day.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the pattern and the size of the area. A standard room in herringbone or chevron typically takes 2 to 3 days, including installation, sanding, and finishing. Simpler patterns like wood strips are quicker. We’ll give you a timeline in your quote.
Do you supply samples before I commit?
Absolutely. We recommend seeing samples in your space before deciding. Call us and we can arrange samples for the patterns and species you’re considering, or invite you to visit our Sydney showroom.
Can existing parquetry floors be repaired or restored?
Absolutely. We repair, re-lay, and refinish existing parquetry floors regularly. Individual damaged blocks can often be replaced if we can source a matching species. Then the whole floor is sanded level and recoated so the repair is invisible.
