BLACKBUTT (COASTAL)
Eucalyptus Pilularis

Blackbutt is one of the most widely available and sought-after hardwood species from the coastal forests of NSW, ranging from Bega on the south coast up to Maryborough in Queensland. This timber features a subtle and attractive colour palette, from golden yellows and pale browns to light blonde boards, making it ideal for interiors that require a light, neutral look. The sapwood is noticeably lighter than the heartwood, adding natural variation to your floor.

Grades

Blackbutt (Coastal) Timber Flooring Grades

________________________________________________________________________________

Select Grade

The cleanest and most uniform grade, with minimal natural features. Occasional small gum veins or pin holes may occur. Ideal for modern, minimalist interiors where a smooth, refined look is preferred.

Standard Grade

Offers a balance between clean appearance and natural character. Features include small to medium gum veins, tight knots, and subtle grain patterns. Very popular for those seeking a natural timber look at good value.

Feature Grade

Known as the “Timber Lovers Grade”, Feature grade highlights gum veins, small knots, gum pockets, and surface checking. It retains the structural quality of Select grade but may require some filling during installation to achieve a smooth finish.

Prestige Grade

A combination of Select and Standard grades, often used for wider boards. Includes all Select-grade boards from the run plus the better-quality Standard-grade boards.

Rustic Grade

Combines lower-quality Standard-grade boards with Feature-grade boards, offering a highly natural and character-filled floor.

Rustic Industrial Grade

A mix of Standard, Feature, Cover, and Homestead boards. Supplied as T&G flooring; for structural use, boards with excessive splits, knots, or checking must be carefully selected. Perfect for highly featured floors on a budget.

Homestead Grade

Select-grade appearance with sticker marks from processing. Some marks may sand out, others may remain visible. Priced similarly to Feature grade.

Cover / Utility Grade

Also called auction grade. Contains larger gum veins, termite galleries, knots, surface checking, and machining imperfections. Not recommended for polished finish; requires careful selection and more waste to achieve a usable appearance.
