MERBAU Intsia bijuga Merbau (Kwila) is a hardwood derived from South East Asia, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Islands. It is harvested from tropical forests and in some cases may be sourced from forests legally converted to other land uses or areas where there are inadequate controls on logging. The colour of Merbau is described as a yellow-orange brown hue that will deepen to a deepened reddish brown colour with age. The sapwood is susceptible to Lyctid borer attach if left untreated. One thing you must be careful of is Merbau has a high content of Tannin and when exposed to the outside elements you will get a high amount of tannin leaching/bleeding that can cause a lot of problems if you have concrete or other masonry surfaces in a close vicinity.
